Ivory Curvings
With a history of
exceeding 1,000 years, Guangzhou ivory carving has been one of the celebrated traditional handicrafts in China.
Rich in variety, Guangzhou Ivory Carving products include figurines of modern and traditional designs, flowers and birds, animals,
open-work vases, ornamental boats, pagodas, miniature landscapes, palace lanterns, table lamps and utensils for daily use. The ivory ball,
in particular, are the best known of all the products. Being carved out of a solid piece of ivory and through the workmanship of
openwork, the ivory balls are made to contain many free-moving concentric layers, with flower patterns carved in relief on each of the
inner layer. This exquisite and elegant carving technique is recognized as the top of its kind and the number of layers in an ivory
increases from the original over a dozen to 45. This is not only an all-time high so far in China but also, on several occasions, has
won prizes and widespread acclaim in international exhibitions.
Colored Porcelain
The Guangzhou
colored porcelain, also known as “gold-woven porcelain”, is a kind of art objects with distinct oriental characteristics, made by having
various white porcelain wares colorfully painted and baked.
Guangzhou colored porcelain was first produced in the Kangxi reign lf the Qing Dynasty over 200 years ago. By inheriting the quintessence
of the Ming colored porcelain and other handicrafts and arts, and absorbing the technique of some Western paintings, it has gradually
established a unique art style of its own. The colored porcelain of Guangzhou is characterized by its brilliant colors, compact composition,
exquisite colored drawings that are traced in gold to make different white porcelain wares appear so resplendent, magnificent and
eye-catching as if thousand threads of gold were stitched on pieces of white jades. Products cover daily utensils such as plates,
saucers, bowls, tableware’s, tea sets, coffee sets as well as flower vases for art admiration.
