Heritage: The Old Town of Lijiang
Basic Facts
Lijiang, perched at the bottom of the Himalayas and the Qinghai-Tibet Platue, is one of China's cities of historic and
cultural significance. It is well-known for Old Town, magnificent Mount Jade Dragon, springs, lakes and frothy rivers, rich history and
unsophisticated ethnic customs. In 1997, Lijiang became the first Chinese hill town to earn a World Cultural Heritage status from UNESCO.
Lijiang's main scenic spots include the Ancient Town of Dayan, the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the First Bend of the Yangtze River, the
Tiger Leaping Gorge on the Jinsha River, the Jade Spring Park and the Camellia Tree in the Yufeng Temple.
More than 22 different ethnic minorities have made Lijiang their home such as Naxi, Pumi, Tibetan, Miao, Lisu and Miao. Naxi ethnic
group in Lijiang has a long history and also a brilliant culture. It is quite unique in civil architecture, clothes and custom. The
performances of Naxi ancient music are unforgettable enjoyments.

The Old Town of Lijiang Located in Dayan Town, the Old Town of Lijiang has a history of 800 years. 4,000 Naxi families made the Old Town their home. This well-preserved old town is full of cobbled streets, crisscrossing canals and gaily-blossoms. Several houses, monasteries, streets and bridges have been there from the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Square Street, locates at the heart of the Old Town was the central bazaar centuries ago. In 1997, the Old Town of Lijiang was put into the World Cultural Heritage List. |

Jade Dragon & Snow Mountain Located 15km north of Lijiang, the Jade Dragon & Snow Mountain offers expansive mountains view and snowy scenery. The mountain rises 5,596 metres above the sea level, and it is well-known as the southernmost glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. The mountain is one of the state -class scenic resort of China. |
