Getting To Jiuzhaigou
• From Chengdu to Jiuzhai Valley:
(approx 8-10 hours)
The road from Chengdu to Jiuzhai Valley is being improved and the travel time is decreasing. It is hoped that travel time will be reduced to under 6hours when the road is completed. It is estimated that the road will be completed in mid-late 2012. Buses from Chengdu travel via Wenchuan, Maoxian and Songpan. Occasionally, due to bad weather conditions buses may change the route to travel Mianyang and Pingwu with little to no prior notice.
More or less busses could be available on any of the below routes depending on demand on a given day. It is usually only possible to purchase bus tickets one day in advance. Your accommodation provider can help you to book tickets if required. All times and schedules are subject to change. Please contact your accommodation provider to find the current time table a couple of days before you intend to travel.

Flights to Jiuzhai Valley from Chengdu:
Off-peak – 15 flights a day.
Peak – 23 flights a day.
During the peak season there are also direct flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xian and Chongqing.
Opening hours and entrance prices for the park differ according to the season. During the winter season the park is at its driest and the threat of forest fires is at its highest. Because of the destruction that fire could cause the local eco-system and residents (most villagers still live in wooden homes) some trails and parts of the park are closed.

Children under 6 years old or under 1.2m enter the park for free and travel for free on park busses. Children still need to get a free ticket from the ticket office.
Second day ticket:During the off-peak season the second day ticket costs 20 RMB. When purchasing your ticket you will be asked if you would like to enter the park for one or two days. If you would like to spend two days in the park you need to pay for the second day together with your first day’s ticket. Your photo will be taken on entry to the park to validate your second day’s ticket. If you pay for a one-day ticket and decide that you would like to re-enter on the second day you must tell the park staff on the way out, before you exit the park. This offer is only valid for two consecutive days in the off peak season.

• Getting around the park
Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park provides a shuttle bus service to transport visitors around the park. Busses start running at 7am when the park opens and run until the park closes. Jiuzhaigou Valley busses drop off and pick up visitors at each of the scenic spots throughout the park. You are free to get on and off busses as frequently as you like once you have purchased a bus ticket.
There are over 70km of eco-friendly wooden trails throughout Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park. In the forests, on the other side of the lakes and away from the road, walking through the park is even more peaceful.
It is possible to get the bus to the top of one of the park's valleys and walk all the way out. This should take the best part of one day. It will take two full days if you would like to walk all of the three valleys.
