Basic Facts

Beijing, the capital city of the People’s Republic of China, is a mysterious and exotic city to most of the visitors. Beijing has a population of over 14 million. It covers an area of 16800 square kilometres, and was first built as a small garrison town. It was not until 720 B.C. that the city emerged from town to a capital for the first time.
At the beginning of the 10th century, it was the second capital of the Liao Dynasty. From then on ,the city had been the capital of the Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties until 1911.It has changed its name at least 8 times. It has been sacked, demolished and rebuilt.
Today Beijing is not only the political and cultural centre of a resurgent China, but also a popular tourist destination.
Being a world-renowned ancient cultural city, boasting many scenic spots and historical monuments, such as the Forbidden City, known as the Palace Museum, which was the imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Summer Palace, the largest garden in the world. The Great Wall, with a history of over 2000 years, being one of the 7 great wonders in the world, the only man-made construction visible from the moon. The Temple of Heaven, where the Ming and Qing emperors worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests. The Tiananmen Square, known as the largest one in the world.
