Jokhang Temple-World Cultural Heritage

Built in 7th century, the Jokhang Temple is the oldest wooden-and-stone structure in Tibet and also one of the Tibet's holiest temples. The Jokhang Temple, located in Barkhor Square, is the noisy and colourful heart of Lhasa. The main entrance to the Jokhang Temple is marked by a huge golden, eight-spoke Dharma wheel flanked by 2 deer. It represent the Buddhist eightfold path to enlightenment and 2 deer serve as the reminder that Buddha gave his first sermon in a park. The Large Scripture Hall is the centre of the imposing temple, symbolizing the centre of the universe. Nowadays, the temple is a great spot to watch modern Lhasa life in Barkhor Square.

Norbu Lingka-World Cultural Heritage

Built in 1751, the Norbu Lingka was the summer residence of the Dalai Lama. Meaning "baby park" in Tibetan language, Norbu Lingka lies 3km west of the Potala Palace. It has been sanatorium for the Dalai Lamas since the 7th Dalai Lama. Successive Dalai Lamas continually expanded the palace and up until 1959, commoners weren't allowed within its walls. The palace contains some fabulous murals fusing Tibetan history and myth.
