Pingyao is located about 715 kilometres from Beijing and 80 kilometres from Taiyuan,the provincial capital city of Shanxi Province. Pingyao became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Pingyao was the financial center of China in the late Qing Dynasty and has the first bank in China. Keeping its city layout from the Ming and Qing dynasties, Pingyao is a hot tourist destination and is now renowned for its well-preserved ancient city wall.

Pingyao Old City, totally built a thousand years back, is well kept. It was recorded in the World Cultural Heritage in 1997, together with the Zhenguo Temple and Shuanglin Temple in the region. Meandering along the Ancient Ming and Qing Street and columns of living arrangements inside the old town, you can experience its previous heavenliness.

What's advantageous is that the Railway Station and the Bus Station are spotted nearby the Old City. You can without much of a stretch get into the Old City when you touch base there via train or long-distance bus.
