Jade Buddha Temple

The Jade Buddha Temple was built in 1882, one of the three famous temples in Shanghai. This is a well-preserved Buddhist temple. The temple so named for the statue of Sakyamuni carved out of the white jade and transferred to Shanghai from Burma.

The Jade Buddha Temple is not famous for its structural engineering, which is new and inherent a standard Song Dynasty style, however the two Buddhas housed inside. Both are made of white jade in Burma and delineate Shakyamuni Buddha (the authentic Buddha).

The most noteworthy of the two is the situated Buddha, 2 meters (6 feet 5 inches) tall, measuring 205 kg (452 lb) and adorned with semi-valuable stones. The other statue is a peaceful and lovely Reclining Buddha around 1 meter (3 feet 4 inches) in length.

By bus: Take bus 19, 206, 316 or 738 and get off atJiangning Road Anyuan RoadStation.
By subway: Take Subway Line7 and get off atChangshou Road Station. Get out from Exit5, walk along Xinhui Road and turn right till Jiangning Road. Then keep walking till Anyuan Road and turn right to find the temple.
