Religions in China

China is an multi-religion county and there are 5 major religions at present such as Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholicism and Protestantism. Ethnic groups have their own religious preferences. There are more than 10 ethnic minorities, including Hui and Uygur, believe in Islam while most of the Tibetans and some of the Mogolians are the followers of Tibetan Buddhism.
Buddhism was spread to China in AD 2 amongst the imperial family, nobles and scholars. In 3rd to 6th century, Buddhism became popular and many temples were built across China. In 7th to 8th century, Buddhism spread to Tibet and developed into Tibetan Buddhism.
Laozi, a Chinese philosopher of the Spring and Autumn Period is the forefather of Taoism and it was originated in 2nd century AD during the reign of Eastern Han Dynasty. Taoism's believe is to set up a utopian peace where people lives in equality.
The inter-marriage and Arabia merchants integrated into central China along the Silk Road considered the earliest Muslims in China.
During the reign of Genghis Khan, his largest empire immigrated a large number of people from Central and Western Asia to China. Thus formed the basis of Hui nationality of China.
The first church of Christianity was built in 638 during Tang Dynasty. The Italian Jesuit, Matteo Ricci made the influx of Christianity to China who served both Ming and Qing Dynasty as a court astronomer.
