Unraveling Yangshuo
Yangshuo, which is embraced by a dozen of limestone karst mountains and located an hour south of Guilin, which "has the
best scenery in Guilin". It is known as a backpacker's paradise. The West Street in Yangshuo, a 2km stretch crammed with pubs, shops and
hotels. Glimpses of the rich culture can be found in many shops selling local products.
Yangshuo county has 300,000 inhabitants, comprised of various ethnic groups including the Miao, Yao, Zhuang as well as Han and became
blossomed 1,400 years ago.
Cycling, walking, rafting and swimming are several popular ways to witness Yangshuo's charms.
Banyan of a Thousand Years & Moon Hill
The enormous Banyan is 1,400 years old and measures 17m high, 7.1m wide and spanning an area of over 1,000 square metres.
Located some 7.5km south of Yangshuo county, and lies on the western bank of the Jinbao River, the Banyan is one of the major Yangshuo's
attractions.
The Moon Hill, a limestone pinnacle with a moon-shaped hole square in the middle. There are stairs that lead from the bottom to its peak
offering 360-degree-view of karst topography.
Xingping Village
The picture-perfect Xingping is noteworthy for its Fengshui and is also famous for its centuries-old wood curvings and Ming Dynasty architecture. With 7 mountains as its protective shield, and 2 stone guardians stand at its entrance, Xingping is known as a village featured with rich culture. The former American President Bill Clinton visited the village in 1998.
